Diet Doctor is probably the most useful low-carb site there is.  This is where my low-carb journey began nearly over seven years ago. With tonnes of recipes, videos and helpful resources you can find just about everything you might need here especially if you are just starting out.

The Public Health Collaboration (PHC) informs the public and empowers the medical community on the science and solutions of health via real food and smart exercise to treat and prevent diseases and conditions, instead of just prescribing drugs and pushing fake food.

Zoë Harcombe has an amazing ability to break down complex “findings” in headlines, journals and studies.  Highly methodical in her approach she always notes every detail and reference, to aid in further research and opinion.  Her writing is also enjoyable and understandable, often busting the myths behind overly dramatised headlines.

Lore of Nutrition: Challenging conventional dietary beliefs
by Tim Noakes

I had the pleasure of meeting Tim Noakes at a PHC conference in 2018, but he needed no introduction.  Amongst those who “wrote the book” on conventional “carb loading” and carbohydrate performance, he subsequently turned his back on this advice after making some amazing discoveries.  He then risked his career and more fighting those who tried to silence what he in the end proved to be the truth.  This book describes this event and everything behind it.

Tim is a South African scientist, an emeritus professor in the Division of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine at the University of Cape Town, and simply just an amazing, friendly down-to-earth guy.

He has also run more than 70 marathons and ultramarathons!

Diet Doctor also happens to have a very useful list of media relating to Tim Noakes here:

The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance
by Stephen Phinney, Jeff Volek

The title says it all!

The Diet Delusion
by Gary Taubes

Gary’s hugely detailed investigation into the fat vs. sugar debate is documented here.  It is a big read, but absolutely fascinating.  It also spawns a tremendous amount of further reading and study – so be prepared!

Dr Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution: A Complete Guide To Achieving Normal Blood Sugars

by Dr Richard K. Bernstein

Whether or not you are affected or concerned about Diabetes, this book is an extremely valuable read to gain understanding of insulin, blood sugar, their cause and effect.
